Vet2Vet Peer Support Case Study

Background

Vet2Vet Peer Support was created to help veterans navigate complex systems, locate trusted resources, and build meaningful community connections.

What began as an effort to support individual veterans quickly revealed a broader challenge: many organizations and support resources were difficult to navigate, information was fragmented, and people often struggled to find the help they needed.

The experience highlighted how digital accessibility, information organization, and clear communication can directly influence whether individuals successfully connect with support and resources.

Challenge

Veterans and their families often encounter complex systems, multiple agencies, and an overwhelming volume of information when seeking assistance.

Common challenges included:

  • Difficulty locating relevant resources

  • Inconsistent information across organizations

  • Unclear navigation pathways

  • Limited visibility of available support services

  • Barriers to community engagement and peer connection

Addressing these challenges required more than simply creating a website. It required a thoughtful approach to organizing information, improving accessibility, and creating clear pathways to support.

Approach

The development of Vet2Vet provided an opportunity to explore and refine practical approaches to digital modernization, including:

  • Information architecture and navigation design

  • Resource organization and categorization

  • Accessibility and usability improvements

  • Content strategy and messaging

  • Community-focused website development

  • Ongoing governance and sustainability planning

The goal was not simply to publish information, but to make information easier to discover, understand, and use.

Implementation

The Vet2Vet platform was developed to serve as a central location for support resources, organizational information, and community engagement opportunities.

Work included:

  • Website design and development

  • Resource library organization

  • Navigation and content structure planning

  • Accessibility-focused design decisions

  • Content creation and messaging development

  • Ongoing maintenance and enhancement

Throughout the process, lessons learned from real-world use informed continuous improvements to the platform and overall approach.
